Many children when growing up in The Great Depression faced many hardships including malnourishment, child labor, and improper or no schooling.
HUNGER and ILLNESS Food was very sparse during the time and if there was any to be found it lacked vital proteins and minerals for a growing child to function properly. Illness became a very common side effect from the conditions and very few were able to see doctors to get cured. Also the infant mortality rate was very high due from lack of maternal nutrition and lacking the money to see doctors.
SCHOOLING Many children were unable to have any education, many teachers were put out of work with the lack of money. Very few teachers still taught even with the absence of a paycheck. Resulting from no education, many who grew up in this era believed strongly in taking school seriously when they had families.
