The American Dream for many Americans changed during the Great Depression, focused more on daily living rather than lavish dreams they may have had in the past. Read here on how the Great Depression influenced many American Dreams.
Children- Many kids did not think about the American Dream during their youth, but living in the Great Depression was motivation for them to make sure that their children did not have to endure the same struggles they had during their adolescence.
Women- The most common American Dream was to provide the best they could for their children. All mothers felt the affects of the Great Depression when making food or providing clothing for their families, whether from barley having enough food or patching up dresses because there was no money to buy a new one. Women of the depression did what they had to do to survive the times.
Minorities- The Great Depression tested all groups of minorities, the scarcity of jobs and discrimination pushed their limits. Their American Dream became the very typical dream, having a job and providing for yourself. At times the dream seemed impossible with majorities heckling minorities and struggles of daily life, but many found the American Dream within what they had.
